Consumer Price Indices Indicators in Iraq for April 2012

 

Central Statistical Organization has completed the inflation report for April 2012 which has been prepared by depending on field data collection of goods and services prices which consist the consumer basket components from a chosen sample of sale outlets all over Iraq's governorates where the year 2007 has been depended on as the base year. 

The report shows the followings: 

First: - Consumer Price Indices Indicators on Iraq level

Consumer price index has amounted to (142.4 %) in April 2012 increasing at a rate of 1.1% as compared with the previous month and at a rate of 8.7% as compared with April 2011. Results showed the followings:-

1.  Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages division: - Prices of this division registered an increase in April 2012 at a rate of 1.0% as compared with the previous month, this was a result of prices increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 1.9%, at the Middle region at a rate of 0.1% and at the South region at a rate of 2.1%, the main reason behind prices increase of this division on Iraq level is the increase in Vegetables prices. This division prices showed an increase at a rate of 13.3% as compared with April 2011.   

2.  Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco division: - Its prices in Iraq registered a decrease for the current month at a rate of 0.5% as compared with the previous month, as a result of prices decrease at the South region at a rate of 1.5%, while at each of Kurdistan and the Middle regions prices witnessed stability. This division prices showed an increase at a rate of 3.9% as compared with April 2011.

3.        Clothes and Footwear division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase for the current month at a rate of 0.2% as compared with the previous month as a result of prices increase at the Middle region at a rate of 0.4% and at the South region at a rate of 0.3%, while at Kurdistan region prices decreased at a rate of 0.6%. This division prices increased at a rate of 7.3% as compared with April 2011.  

4.   Housing division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase for the current month at a rate of 2.2% as compared with the previous month where prices increased at the Middle region at a rate of 1.6% and at the South region at a rate of 4.8% while at Kurdistan region prices decreased at a rate of 0.1%.This division prices increased at a rate of 9.7% as compared with April 2011due to the increase of rent prices at a rate of 14.1%.

Fuel products (kerosene, LPG, Oil) sub-group                                                            

       As for Fuel products (kerosene, LPG, Oil) sub-group, it witnessed a decrease for April 2012 at a rate of 1.2% as compared with the previous month as a result of prices decrease at Kurdistan region at a rate of 6.1% , at the Middle region at a rate of 0.6% and at the South region at a rate of 0.4%. This sub-group prices decreased at a rate of 0.7% as compared with April 2011.                                                    

5.  House Supplies division: - Its prices in Iraq showed a slight increase for the current month at a rate of 0.1% as compared with the previous month as a result of prices increase at each of Kurdistan at a rate of 0.4% and at the Middle region at a rate of 0.1%, while prices witnessed stability at the South region. This division prices increased at a rate of 2.7% as compared with April 2011.  

6.  Health division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase for the current month as compared with the previous month at a rate of 0.4%, as a result of prices increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 1.4% and at each of the Middle and South regions at the rate of 0.2%. This division prices increased at a rate of 7.4% as compared with April 2011.  

7.  Transportation division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase for the current month as compared with the previous month at a rate of 0.3% as a result of prices increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 0.2% and at the Middle region at a rate of 0.7%, while at the South region prices decreased at a rate of 0.2%. This division prices decreased at a rate of 2.5% as compared with April 2011.  

8.  Communications division: - Its prices in Iraq showed a decrease at a rate of 0.4% for the current month as compared with the previous month, as a result of prices decrease at the South region at a rate of 1.2% and increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 0.7%, while prices were stable at the Middle region. This division prices decreased at a rate of 3.5% as compared with April 2011.  

9.  Recreation and Culture division: - Its prices in Iraq showed a decrease at a rate of 0.2% for the current month as compared with the previous month as a result of prices decrease at Kurdistan region at a rate of 0.1% and at the South region at a rate of 0.7%, while prices were stable at the Middle region. This division prices decreased at a rate of 0.8% as compared with April 2011.  

10.    Education division: - Its prices in Iraq witnessed stability for the current month as compared with the previous month as a result of prices slight increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 0.1% while at each of the Middle and South regions prices showed stability. This division prices increased at a rate of 5.9% as compared with April 2011.  

11.     Restaurants division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase for the current month at a rate of 0.3% as compared with the previous month as a result of prices increase at the Middle region at a rate of 0.7% and decrease at the South region at a rate of 0.3%, while at Kurdistan region prices were stable. This division prices increased at a rate of 6.9% as compared with April 2011.  

12.     Miscellaneous Services and goods division: - Its prices in Iraq showed an increase at a rate of 0.3% for the current month as compared with the previous month, as a result of prices increase at Kurdistan region at a rate of 1.2%, at the Middle region at a rate of 0.1% and at the South region at a rate of 0.3%. This division prices increased at a rate of 11.8% as compared with April 2011.  

13.   The core inflation[1] amounted to (139.9%) registering an increase at a rate of (1.0%) as compared with the previous month and at a rate of (6.7%) as compared with April 2011.

 

Second: - Consumer Price Indices Indicators on Regions level

1.  Kurdistan region prices for April 2012 showed an increase of 0.7% as compared with the previous month, this was mainly due to the increase in prices of Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages prices at a rate of 1.9%, House Supplies, Appliances and Maintenance prices at a rate of 0.4%, Health prices at a rate of 1.4%,  Transportatiopn prices at a rate of 0.2%, Communication prices at a rate of 0.7%, Education prices at a rate of 0.1%  and Miscellaneous Services and Goods prices at a rate of 1.2% .

2.  Middle region prices for April 2012 showed an increase of 0.7% as compared with the previouse month this was mainly due to the increase of Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages prices at a rate of 0.1%, Clothes Footwear prices at a rate of 0.4%, Housing prices at a rate of 1.6%, House Supplies, Appliances and Maintenance prices at a rate of 0.1%, Health prices at a rate of 0.2%, Transportatiopn prices at a rate of 0.7%, Restaurants prices at a rate of 0.7% and  Miscellaneous Services and Goods prices at a rate of 0.1% .

3.  South region prices for April 2012 showed an increase of 2.3% as compared with the previous month, this was mainly due to the increase of Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages prices at a rate of 2.1%, Clothes Footwear prices at a rate of 0.3%, Housing prices at a rate of 4.8%, Health prices at a rate of 0.2% and Miscellaneous Services and Goods prices at a rate of 0.3% .


[1] Core or Underlying Inflation: Is defined as the rate of change of CPI calculated by excluding the fuel products (kerosene, LPG) in Housing division and Fruit and Vegetable sub-groups in Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages.
